The force of this first episode expresses in a cry, the mother's stupefaction in watching her son die. The density of this beginning lends all its force to the harmonic space which, by contrast, climbs through the bass tones and tumbles through the trebles: a state of colour which is very significant and which assures the equilibrium of the total work.
